WHY YOUR STORY MATTERS MORE THAN YOUR RESUME

You may have heard we need a "Professional Value Proposition" (PVP). But in a world of automated screening and digital noise, people don’t just buy a value proposition—they remember a Professional Narrative.

Data is what you did; a narrative is who you are when the stakes are high.

I recently used Generative AI to distill my own 24-year journey—spanning corporate leadership at EY, AI transformation for a 400,000-employee global matrix, and over two decades in academia—into a single, cohesive story.

Here is how you can use AI to move from a list of bullets to a narrative that sticks:

1. Find the "Through-Line" in Your Complexity

My own background includes global learning strategy, academic teaching, and high-level AI adoption. AI helped me identify the common thread: I am a high-stakes "fix-it" lead who solves mission-critical problems by building scalable systems where no blueprint exists.

2. Translate Facts into Impact

AI didn’t invent my accomplishments, but it sharpened them into the "hero moments" of my story:

  • The AI Visionary: Led the largest global Generative AI initiative for 400,000 employees.

  • The Architect: Engineered an enterprise proficiency engine for 10,000 technologists.

  • The Educator: Delivered 300+ university courses and modernized curriculum to eliminate AI-related integrity violations.

3. Adapt the Narrative, Not Just the Text

Using AI, I can pivot my story to different rooms without losing my core identity. Whether I’m speaking to executive boards, networking with global leaders, or mentoring students, the narrative shifts its focus to what they need to hear most.

My AI-Enhanced Professional Narrative:

"I am a Global Transformation Architect who leads enterprise-scale capability building. I specialize in diagnosing complex organizational gaps—the ‘no-blueprint’ problems—and designing the scalable systems that solve them. My work blends corporate leadership, academic rigor, and AI strategy to help organizations grow with clarity and purpose."

Try these Prompts to Find Your Story:

  • "Analyze my resume and identify the 'through-line' that connects my diverse experiences into one cohesive professional narrative."

  • "Refine this career summary to make it less about 'tasks' and more about the unique 'fix-it' value I bring to a high-growth organization."

  • "Create a 30-second networking narrative that highlights my impact in [Industry] for an executive-level audience."

Your Professional Narrative is a living document. As your career evolves, your story should too. If you haven't revisited yours recently, you're leaving your value up to interpretation. Remember AI can be a powerful partner, not a replacement. Use thoughtful prompts and intentional guidance to elevate your work.
