Strong Tips on avoiding the AI Dependence Trap

Click play above to listen to a song about AI Dependency.

Let’s go back to January 15th, 2009. US Airways Flight 1549, piloted by Captain Sully, you may recall this as Miracle on the Hudson.  After a bird strike disables both engines, he lands the plane in the Hudson River. This wasn't a triumph of technology, but of human skill.

The question for you is this Would 155 people have been saved by Auto Pilot: a Disruptive technology at the time, it was a revolutionary tool in aviation when it was launched, it was the AI "silver bullet," of its time.

Pilots back in 1970s when it was introduced were much like we are today with AI they became less proficient in the skills of manual flying, unprepared for emergencies.

However, the industry realized this and forced pilots to prioritize maintaining essential piloting skills. Result Capt. Sully was at right place at the right time with the right skill set to save 155 people.

The lesson is clear:

Overreliance on AI, even when seemingly beneficial, can have unintended consequences. We risk skills wasting away in critical areas, jeopardizing our ability to adapt and thrive in a changing world.

This is not just about avoiding disaster; it's about building a future where human and technological capabilities thrive together.

Already Students in high school Stem programs are using AI tools to turn in homework to get perfect math scores. Then they flunk their test on the same materials. The early results are low SAT and College entrance level scores as students are being turned down at colleges. The future issue is developing we have a lack of qualified students with needed skills for 21st century jobs.

Today we are at a critical point in time which we need to be aware of not becoming too dependent on AI as a Silver Bullet as it could give us lead poisoning, we need to keep our skills current but not become too reliant on the technology so we can step up to enact Our Miracle in the Marketplace for Career success and Competitive advantage over our competitors.

Yes, AI could be our silver bullet, but it also could be an inhibitor if we do not prioritize and maintain key business skills Otherwise, we may not be at the right place at the right time with the right skill set for success.
